The First round of the NFL draft was a historic one, especially for offensive players. 14 offensive players were taken to start the draft, six of them being quarterbacks, with 23 overall offensive players taken in the first round. All records for an NFL draft.

With the second and third rounds on the horizon, here are your winners and losers of the first round.

Winners

Quarterbacks:

Six Quarterbacks were Taken in the first 14 picks as I stated that was a record in NFL Draft history. We knew Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye would go with the first three picks. It was the second tier of quarterbacks that were picked after them that won, J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix were always linked to the Vikings and Broncos, but the shocker of the night was Michael Penix Jr. being picked by the Falcons with the 8^th overall pick.

Chicago Bears:

Not only did the Bears select their next franchise quarterback and probably the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck, they also were able to select Washington receiver Rome Odunze with the 9th overall pick to add to an already great wide receiver room. Caleb Williams has come into a situation in which he should not fail unlike his predecessors, this Bears offense is very talented and should be fun to watch this season.

Minnesota Vikings:

Minnesota was able to move a slot to grab their guy in J.J. McCarthy with 10^th overall pick and not give up the 23^rd overall pick to get him. Then they used the 23^rd pick and moved up six slots to grab Edge Dallas Turner from Alabama who dropped in this draft due to need. They did give up some future draft compensation to get Turner, but they will live with that by getting the best edge rusher in the draft.

Jacksonville Jaguars:

Jacksonville was able to move down in the draft to 23 and acquire future draft compensation (pick 167 and 2025 3^rd and 4^th round picks) from Minnesota, all while still being able to draft a very talented wide receiver in Brian Thomas at 23 out of LSU.

Losers

Atlanta Falcons:

Selecting Michael Penix Jr. at 8 was a head scratcher, especially since signing Kirk Cousins to $100 million this offseason. Instead of drafting a player they can use this season to help bolster their defense or add to their offense, they get a player that will not play for a couple of seasons.

Buffalo Bills:

Buffalo has needs at Defensive back and Wide Receiver, but it was the two trades to move back in the draft that saw the Kansas City Chiefs take the fastest wide receiver in the draft in Xavier Worthy out of Texas and then watch as The Panthers take Xavier Leggette out of South Carolina, two receivers they could’ve used next season.

Tennessee Titans:

Taking Offensive Tackle J.C. Latham out of Alabama while Rome Odunze and Olu Fashanu were still there could be a big regret for the Titans. I had both ahead of Latham in this draft. Hopefully Latham pans out at left tackle for Tennessee as he has the grave responsibility at keep Will Levis upright next season.

Brock Bowers:

Out of all places to go to he goes to the Raiders, one of the more dysfunctional franchises in the NFL. Although Antonio Pierce does seem to captivate that locker room, the inconsistencies at quarterback next season will haunt this team. I’m sure Brock Bowers will have a great career in the NFL but the next couple of seasons may be trying times for the special tight end out of Georgia.
